Swahili, a Bantu language, is the native language of the Swahili people. It is a lingua franca of the African Great Lakes region. It is also spoken in other parts of Africa, such as Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Mozambique and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Swahili speakers can be estimated at more than 60 million.
